Why Obedience Training

Obedience training is an essential part of having a healthy and happy relationship with your dog. The level to which you want to train your dog is completely up to you. Do you want a well behaved dog who listens to the basic commands such as SIT, DOWN, and STAY; or do you want a dog who goes to competitions to win titles? Any direction you take in obedience training will greatly benefit you, your family, and your dog.

An untrained dog is an unhappy dog and most likely has unhappy owners because of behavioral problems such as chewing furniture, excessive barking, aggression, biting or mouthing, jumping, digging, thieving, and many more. These behavioral problems arise because the dog is unclear of the rules and boundaries. Because dogs only know what you set as black and white, right and wrong, they need to know your rules and boundaries to make their lives more simple.

The best way to help your dog know your rules and boundaries is by teaching or training him obedience commands. When you train your dog obedience commands it opens up the lines of communication and strengthens the bond between you and your dog. You will start to understand how your dog will react in different circumstances and your dog will know what you expect of him in those circumstances. Obedience training sets the foundation for your dog to become a well mannered member of your family and of society.
